Who would’ve thought raising money for a charity could be so much fun! I was invited to the Seventh Annual Sydney Chocoloate Ball run by the FSHD Global Research Foundation last Saturday evening at The Star Event Centre in Sydney. This event wasn’t only about raising money but it was about giving guests a spectacular dining and entertainment experience without its purpose being lost in all its lavishness. This event had the support and attendance of high profile Australian influencers and whether it be chocolate or a deep passion to support the foundation to find a cure for the disease, Saturday’s night’s event was quite extraordinary.

Bad Jews, now showing at the Seymour Theatre in Chippendale, is one of those plays that held my attention throughout the entire one act, 100 minutes performance. With brilliant acting, Bad Jews is an intense play set in a cramped Manhattan apartment centring on a Jewish family and the tensions that arise where there are differences in the degree of beliefs in their religion. With that comes a quarrel as to who is most entitled to the treasured family heirloom with religious significance. When you put three cousins, with strong personalities in a small space who come together because of the passing of their beloved grandfather, you are bound to get an atmosphere that’s explosive and filled with rapid fire arguments. Bad Jews had me roaring with laughter.

There has been a lot of big events happening in Sydney lately so there has been a little bit of a time lag on this post. I was invited to a VIP dinner event by the Four Seasons Hotel Sydney, which unveiled their new events catering concept two weeks ago. I think one of the key advantages of selecting caterers from a 5 star hotel group like the Four Seasons Hotel for your event is that your food and venue is sorted out for you and it is much easier to organise a large event particularly where there is so much other things to think about and organise like who to invite, preparing invitations, dealing with the politics of it all, etc. The simpler the process, the better. The other advantage of selecting a 5 star hotel as a caterer is that there is a presumption and expectation they will deliver for your function and to a very high standard.

Woolloomooloo is one of the most appealing spots to dine in Sydney I think, especially on a gorgeous, warm sunny Autumn Friday. You get better value dining at lunchtime so you can soak in the beautiful water views, sit by the sidewalk and just ‘people watch’. You may bump into a few familiar faces along the way. I recognised a voice, being an avid listener of Smooth FM, of a passer-by. It was Richard Wilkins as he casually strolled past talking on the phone.

We’re officially at a time of year where something warm needs to be put on in the morning but by midday you feel like you need to tear them off or die from heatstroke. So for the in-between seasons, Metalicus has a good range for layering. I tried out the Metalicus AW'16 merino wool blends collection ahead of Wool Week Australia 2016.

Have you ever watched how an octopus eats a lobster or a crab? You tube it... it’s like watching a horror movie. Anyway the reason for telling you is that one of the exquisite starters cooked up by Chef Luke Fernley of 117 dining at the Intercontinental Sydney is one of the best type of octopuses to eat because that particular species of octopus has a fine dining diet of lobster, crab and scallops. Sweet, smooth and creamy.
